Can I still obtain a tourist visa here in the Ukraine for China or do I have to return to the UK?

You don't have residence permit for Ukraine, do you have other document to prove your legal status in Ukraine, such as work permit or long-term visa? Otherwise, your China visa application will be denied by China embassy in Ukraine.
