About:China Visa Renewal and Extension

I couldn't find online what exactly the letter should say, if a fax is ok?

I am staying with a friend that lives in China. I guess I need a letter from him?
I couldn't find online what exactly the letter should say, if a fax is ok? Or will a scan of the letter be oK? that would be easier to email and print and take to the consulate. Is there more info on this somewhere?

The letter should includes your travel purpose to China, activities, accommodation, duration and your friend in China's valid address, contact information. Besides the letter, your friend in China also has to provide copies of his/her Chinese residence permit and passport information page or his/her Chinese Identity card.

I think printed letter through email will be ok.
