is tibet safe for visitor?

I am going to Silk Road on May after the tour I will like to go to Tibet before I come home but my friend been told me not safe to go there.

Tibet is a popular tourist destination for its colorful ethnic culture and magnificent natural landscape. To be true, it is a bit dangerous for you to visit there individually if you are unacquainted with the local customs, especially for a foreigner.  However, if you go there with a group of tourists and a local tour guide, you may have an wonderful experience.P.S. Individual tourits are not allowed to Tibet according to the regulations of the Chinese government.
