About:Marriage Registration in China

Certfication and Translation of Marriage Certificate.

I am married to a chinese national, I am an Australian citizen.. We were married in Australia, my spouse must return to China for work committments.
I intend to apply for an L visa and on arrival go to the Local Public Security Bureau and apply for Family visit visa/Residence permit.
My question is: one of the documents I must have is our Australian marriage certificate certified and translated into Chinese.
But I can not obtain an answer as to wether this is done before I go to China and if so where do I get it done, Do I go to the Chinese Consulate, or do I get it certified and translated when I arrive in China.

You need to have your Australian marriage certificate authenticated and translated into Chinese before you go to China,

1. authenticated by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade(DFAT)office in the State or Territory in which the Marriage Certificate was issued
2. authenticated by Chinese Embassy or Consulates in Australia. i.e., consular authentication is the end of the authentication chain for the document intended to be used in China.

The consular districts of Chinese Embassy in Australia include ACT, Northern Territory, South Australia .

The consular district of Chinese Consulate-General in Sydney is New South Wales.

The consular districts of Chinese Consulate-General in Melbourne include Victoria and Tasmania.

The consular district of Chinese Consulate-General in Perth is Western Australia.

The consular district of Chinese Consulate in Brisbane is Queensland.

Hi Trevor, I am also from Oz and have just been through this process. It would seem that there is more than one way of achieving this. I had our Australian marriage certificate (issued by office of births, deaths and marriages, not the one issued at the marriage) translated in the Guangzhou Notary Office. This took one week and cost Y220. I found that the family visa is only issued for 6 months and not 1 year as I was led to understand. I have a question regarding this on tis web page.
