how long can i stay if i quit my studies?

I have a temporary residence permit because i'm studying in a chinese language program in a college. But i'm thinking of quitting and get a private teacher. My visa was for one year, and now i just have left 4 months.

I think you can stay in China until the end of your present visa and residence permit if the school won't submit any documents about you to the local Exit and Entry Office under the Public Security Bureau.
