Do you mean a private invitation letter for applying for a China L tourist visa to visit relatives or friends in China, or an official invitation letter from an authorized Chinese unit such as Chinese governmental departments, companies and organizations authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China for a China F business visa application?

In the invitation letter, you friend in China should indlude your travel purpose, time, duration, accommodation, travel expenses (if he/she will afford it for you), and her/his valid contacts and address in China.

Your friend in China also have to provide you the copies of her/his Chinese Identity Card, residence permit, valid China visa.
