You overstay in China for 4 months, please surrender yourself to a police station, you will be fined for 5000 RMB and issued a 10 days exit visa, you have to leave Mainland China within 10 days.

You can explain your situation to the police officers sincerely , and provide the proof that you entrust the agent to renew the visa for you. I don't think you will be put into jail, since its not your own fault. Even if you can find a way to renew your visa now, you have been overstayed for 4 months already. So just do as Nancy advised as soon as possible.
