Do i have to get (G) Transit Visa?

My husband works as a seaman, he invited me to an Asian cruise which will pass by Shanghai. If I go around shanghai, do i need to secure a Visa(what type) even if i will just stay for about 4-5 hours? Please advise. Thanks! Dina Baldivia
