How to get g visa?

Hi I am an Indian passport holder with permanent residency in Australia (over 20yrs)! I am traveling to India via china. Do I need a visa and if so how do I apply for one?

Can you tell me which city you will transit? How long you will transit? Will you leave the airport during the layover?
