About:Chinese Embassy in U.S.A.

Do you have to be currently residing in the USA to get a visa there?

Im currently in Korea and cannot get a visa as i need six months left on my working visa

You can go to Hong Kong first and get a China visa there, then enter Mainland China, it is impossible for you to get a China visa in korea if your Korean alien registration card doesn't have 6 months remaining validity.
