About:Chinese Consulate in San Francisco

I do not have a typewriter to fill in visa application.

Will printing in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS be acceptable? Also, for local ID, will CA driver's license do?

You can type your answers in capital English letters in the space of the visa application form on computer, then print the form out. You don't need a typewriter, you need a cumputer. You can fill the number of your driver's license on Section 1.11 Local ID card number. In United States, most people use state issued driver's licenses as identity cards.
