Choosing the right part of the Great Wall of China. Please help!

I have 1.5 day layover in Beijing and want to see the Great Wall. Any help with these questions is much appreciated!!
- What part of the Wall is closest to the airport and how long to walk it?
- Whats the best type of transportation there?
- Do I need to book in advance or can I pay to walk the Wall when I get there?
