Visa for cruise - single or multi entry ????

We are doing a cruise which leaves from Sydney, stops in QLD, NT, then Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, then Shanghai, Dalian and Tianjin. Is a single entry visa ok as the last 3 stops are all in China or is getting back on the cruise boat each time considered a visit therefore we need multi entry.

You need a multiple entry visa because you will disembark at three ports within Mainland China: Shanghai, Dalian and Tianjin. Please show the cruise itineray when you apply for China visa.

I get the information from the official website of Sydney CVASC (Chinese Visa Application Service Center). The rule states "Cruise ship passenger may apply for single, double or multiple-entry visa based on cruise ship's route and number of entry. Therefore, a travel itinerary is required"
