You need to apply for a double-entry China visa as you'll enter China twice.
If you are going to apply it in Italy, you need to submit: your passport and one recent passport photo; visa application form V2011A and V2011B (Tourist visa applicants are required to fill in the visa application form in detail, providing information of pensonal data, purpose of visit and itinerary etc); copy and original of your permanent Italian residence valid for at least 6 months.

You can try to apply for 1 year multiple entry tourist visa in Italy even though you are a first time applicant. However, one way ticket from Italy to China is not sufficient. For tourist visa applicants, they are required to provide the round-trip flight reservation and the hotel reservation in China if they don't have invitation letter issued by a Chinese Unit or a Chinese citizen.

Yes, you need to book a round-trip ticket from Rome to China, China to Philippies, Philippines to China, China to Rome, to prove that you will enter China twice. It is not easy for you to get multiple entry tourist, but it is possible for you to get a double-entry visa.
