traveling when visa expires

Question

My 30 day visa extension L tourist expires on January 27.I am booked to depart China on Feb 5.I am reluctant to apply for my second extension on January 19 because I would have to leave my passport in the Beijing office for the Spring holiday.I need it for 3 flights and to register in 2 hotels.Last time my passport was released only after 8 days.When should I apply for the extension?

The exit-entry administrative department of public security bureau will be closed from January 22- 28 for Spring Festival. It takes about 1 week for extension, you have to apply extension before January 9, 2012 (Monday), then you can get another 30 days extension L visa before January 19.
