About:China Visa Application Procedure and Fee

Is multiple entry visa rqd for cruise visiting 3 ports?

Our Diamond Princess cruise in february visits 3 ports - Shanghai, Dalian and Tianjin,where we leave the ship and fly out.
On another site I was told we need a multiple visa, however a similar question about another cruise on this site says that a single visa only is required. Please clarify the situation. Thanks.

Similar questions about cruise ship passengers visiting china ports on consecutive days have been given conflicting answers. One answer said a single visa is ok, another that a multiple visa is required.
Here is our itinerary in detail for the part of the Diamond Princess cruise in question [3 China ports]
[previous port was Busan, South Korea]
24 Feb Shanghai, China
25 Feb at sea
26 FEb Dalian, China
27 Feb Tianjin , China [disembark ship and fly out from Tianjin airport]
Are we visiting China once or three times? Arguments could be made for either.

You are visiting China for three times. If you travel Shanghai, Dalian and Tianjin by train, plane or bus, you only visit China once, a single entry visa is ok. However, you travel to 3 ports of China on a cruise ship, a multiple entry visa is required. Miles is right.

Cruise ship passenger may apply for single, double or multipleentry visa based on cruise ship's route and number of entry. Therefore, a travel itinerary is required. You will visit 3 ports - Shanghai, Dalian and Tianjin, a multiple-entry visa is required.

it depends on the route, if there is any other cities in Japan or Korea between shanghai - dalian or dalian-tianjin, that means you need at least double or mulit entry via.
