About:FAQ of Chinese Visa Application

Is a visa required for a stay that goes past midnight?

My grandmother lands in Baiyun Airport at 19.45 on 3rd December.
Her connecting flight to New Zealand is at 00.30 next morning (5 hour stopover).
She has been told that she needs a transit visa as her stay spans "two" days, is this true?
She is quite old and there is not much time left to get one.

A transit visa is not required for her if she won't leave the airport. She can show the flight tickets itinerary to the immigtaion officers at the Baiyun airport.
