What is a convenient/cost effective means of travel from Guangzhou to Suzhou (Jiangsu)?

One train K528 is operating daily from Guangzhou to Suzhou, but it takes around 21hrs. There is no airport in Suzhou, so the most convenient way is to take a flight to Shanghai first and then take a high-speed train to Suzhou.
