About:Chinese Embassy in New Zealand

Do I need to register with the Police if staying in Shanghai for 29 days on a tourist visa

I will be staying with my daughter who is working in Shanghai in her apartment in Lu Wan district

Yes, this is asked by the government. But most people don't do that and it doesn't matter at all if you won't overstay. But if you want to extend your stay in China, you'd better do it.
