Do I need to provide a return ticket when I already have a L-visa?

I have my L-visa and a ticket going to shanghai then Shenyang do I need to provide a return ticket we are planing to have my visa extended before going home to Phil. And book our flight before the visa expire. My cousin is worried that I will be hold at the immigration of china because I only have one way ticket to china.
