Actual place of stay different from the one mentioned in an invitation letter

I'm going to obtain a tourist visa. A friend of mine is going to write me a letter of invitation that will say that I'll be staying at his place for one month. There is a chance that I will stay at his place only for the first days and afterwards rent an apartment for myself. Can I stay in the apartment different from the one that has been mentioned in the letter of invitation?

Please don't worry, you can stay in the apartment different from the one that has been mentioned in the letter of invitation. Once you obtain a visa to China, nobody will check the resident place with the one on the visa application form.
