train travel distance and cost from Shanghai to Beijing, and recomended stops and sights?

1318Km from Shanghai to Beijing, high speed trains only stops at Nanjing, Jinan. D trains and other slower trains may stops at more places, such as Suzhou, Wuxi, Tianjin etc. Special note is if you buy Shanghai-Beijing ticket but get off at Nanjing, you can not go back to the train and continue the trip. To make stops, but ticket for each section.
