Yes they will tell you your money is fake and return you a fake bank note(keeping the good one you gave them) my solution is . Let them see you take a picture of the notes serial number with your telephone before you give your money. Or keep plenty of small denomination notes at hand to pay as its usually the 100 note they will scam you

Yes Ray ! Also be careful takeing a cab from the Airport to Guangzhou They quote 900 R M B one-way the usual fare is about 200 R M B .  The cab buskers at the airport make a tidy sum for a 35 klm trip   Fake money is everywhere Banks or major hotels are always best
