A dual Thai/American citizen to apply for Chinese visa in Thailand

I'm a dual Thai/American citizen planning to visit China on the way back to the U.S. I plan to enter and leave Thailand with US passport. However, I plan to apply for Chinese visa and enter/leave China using Thai passport. Is it ok to do that?
