About:What to Eat in China

Hi, very usefull site! My cuestion is: Are there any supermarkets in china?

I'm going to stay 3 weeks in china and I want to buy and cook my own food sometimes. Considering I don't speak any chinesse should I go to the local market? Is it possible to find occidental ingredients? Help!

Yes, many supermarkets. occidental ingredients can be find in soma local markets in Beijing and Shanghai, I guess. For other places, I would suggest you go to big supermarkets to find occidental ingredients.

Yes, Carrafoure, the largest supermarket chain in the world is in most every town in China, and around most towns is WalMart Superstore, maybe 2 stories high. You can find anything you have in the USA, plus, the rest of the world. A nice store in most large cities is METRO, they are like SAMS or COSTCO... and they have most US staple foods that you wish for. I do not eat Chinese seafood, by personal preference, but, I have no problem eating and when in doubt, ask... The Chinese people are eager to help. Go, and enjoy your vacation... and a tour is not necessary.... China is geared for traveling, and the airfares inside are very reasonable..... buy a fare from US to Shanghai, and then just go on your own.... you willl never regret it.
