permit to travel by china by car

I want to ride-through China to Vietnam by my car. How can I get the special permit for this travel?

I am afraid you can not do this by yourself. You may be denied to enter at the China-Vietnam border. As I know, visitors from the third country to Vietnam from China should be picked up by travel agent. It seems some travel agent orgnize such self-drive tours.
