All visitors should apply for China visa in advance if they want to enter mainland China. In China, only Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Shantou, Xiamen SEZs have visa upon arrival and this visa may not available for people from some countries. So, you can apply for a China visa in HK if you reside there. Otherwise, you need to apply in Indonesia.
