in order to apply for a student visa to China, the Visa Application for Study in China (Form JW-201 or Form JW-202) and the Admission Notice are required. To convert an L visa to X is possible in China but it will cost much money. So, you can wait for these documents before applying your visa to China. If you want to travel in China thereafter, you can change your X visa to L within China, through a visa agency if necessary.
