Do CIBC debit cards work at all in China?

I am going to China and i'm applying for a student visa card. I have a CIBC DEBIT card though, and i was wondering if ATMS over there accept CIBC DEBIT cards.

If your CIBC debit cards was issued by the Bank in Canada, I don't think it will be acceptable in China only if you opened the international service.

I am answering this question for all Canadians that decide to travel to China today, August 20, 2016, and now on as I just came back from China (although this can change at any time). Canadian debit cards in China are accepted only in the banks that have the symbol of PLUS system ATM (which is owned by VISA). The banks are Bank of China, Agricultural Bank of China, China construction Bank, Industrial & Commercial Bank of China, and Bank of Shanghai. Other Banks do not accept Canadian debit cards. Please make sure that your debit card has the PLUS symbol as Interac do not work in China, only in Canada. About Canadian credit cards, they are only accepted where the VISA and MasterCard symbols are, which is mainly in major hotels and retailers. Most small retailers and hotels do not accept them, only UNIONPAY. If you see the UNIONPAY symbol only, your credit card will not be accepted.
