I will be leaving from the Philippines to visit the Ice Lantern Festival on Jan 2012What is the best route of connection-travel i should take?Are hotels attendants conversant in English?

I think you can enter China from Beijing, stay several days in Beijing to visit the forbidden city, great wall, summer palace, and then take a train or flight to harbin. After that, fly to Shanghai to visit Huangpu River and the bund area, Yuyuan Garden and Zhujiajiao Water Town. Finally, take an overnight train to Xian to visit the terracotta warriors. Most of the staff in the hotels above 3-star grade in China can speak English.
