It really depends on your spending habits when you travel. If you say "ooo shiny, must have", then, eep, 50 yuan isn't enough. For example, a pack of postcards is anywhere between 10-35 yuan. One of those small replicas of a Terra Cotta statue from the factory that makes it was dropped down to 80 yuan. I think the museum wanted somewhere around 200 yuan. I hope you're including the cost of water in addition to the cost of food. Keep in mind that most restaurants do not offer unlimited water refills with your meals (unless you're at a buffet place). You probably already know this, but remember that there are no water fountains. Otherwise, a 16-20 ounce bottle of water goes from anywhere between 2 yuan upwards to 10 yuan. If you do any other touristy things like taking a ride by bicycle-drawn carriage, that might be 40 yuan a person (City wall in Xi'an), then about 20 yuan for a tip. And, just like the other posters stated, you can do free stuff, and it's cheaper to eat local food than at a Dairy Queen or something. Hope this helps.
