Getting a Chinese visa with a new US passport

Hello, I just renewed my passport. The issue date is 13MAY2011. My old passport's issue dates was 26JAN2006-26JAN2011. I'm trying to travel to china in august, but i know you need to have your passport for atleast 6 months. Will the Chinese embassy in Seoul, approve my visa application if i show them both passports?

Mr.MASTERVONG, I'm totally confused by you, why do you worry about the validity of new passport? Now your new passort is issued on 13rd May 2011, it valid for about 5 or 10 years. You can use it to apply for China visa. It doesn't mean that you have to hold your passport for 6 months counted from the issue date when you apply for China visa. It means that your passport should have at least 6 months remaining validity when you apply for China visa.

If you are a US citizen in Korea, now you should worry about the validity of ARC, if ARC doesn't have at least 6 months remaining validity, you can't get a China visa in Korea.

The passport with at least 6 months means your passport should have at least 6 months validity when you apply for China visa, therefore, your new passport is qualified for visa application. Now the problem is whether you have a Alien Registration Card valid for at least 6 months or not.

Thank you, i'm just worrying about the validity of my new passport because of the new issue date. So if I have my old passport to back up my new passport, i should be fine applying for the visa? Which means i can go ahead and book my ticket. What if i'm staying with a friend? Do i still need to make hotel reservations?
