Yes, you can apply for a tourist visa to China, and you should go to Chinese embassy in person for visa application. The documents required are as follows:
1. An original passport valid for more than 6 months and copies of its personal information page.
2. One completed Chinese visa application form attached with a passport-sized photo. (Life photos, copied photos and digital photos printed on the ordinary paper are not acceptable.)
3. Copy of your previous China visa.
4. Tourist Arrangements and a Bank statement or other documents asked by visa officers if necessary. One invitation letter from your friend in China is helpful either.
