Never heard that. Chinese people have to apply for a UK visa from the UK embassy or consulate in China, so they have to for aome visa fee. No need to pay so much money to China, but the UK Embassy may require the traveller to prepare enough money for his/her stay in UK.

Thankyou for your reply, however my friend is adament she must pay as she did last time to come to England. The money is non returnable. She said it was normal for Chinese Nationals to pay vast amounts of money to ensure they return to China. I myself can't understand this as if the money is not refunded then what incentive is there to return? Maybe somebody is making stories??
