Hi, I would like to travel from Shanghai Airport to Hefei. I arrive at Shanghai Pudong at 10:00 am and have to go to Hongqiao railway station to take the train to Hefei.If I want to buy my train ticket in advance, what departure time would you recommend, given collecting luggage at the airport, going through customs and then travel from Pudong Airport to Hongqiao railway station? I arrive at 1st May, could it be extra busy on the train because of Labour day?Thank you!

Yes, the transportation will be extra busy due to the Labor Day Holiday. From Shanghai Pudong airport to Hongqiao train station, it takes around 1.5hrs by subway line 2. And collecting luggage and going through customs will take around 40mins. Besides, usually, passengers are advised to arrive at the train station at least 40mins before departure. Thus, you would better book tickets on trains departing after 13:00 such as trains D3026/D3027, D5462/D5463 and etc to Hefei.

Dear Mister Kowa,  Thank you very much for your reply. If I book online, the train tickets will be delivered to the given hotel address. Since I will not stay at any hotel in Shanghai, would you reckon I could buy the tickets at the railway station after our arrival? Or is this going to be a big problem May 1st? If so, is there an alternative way of receiving the tickets?Thanks again!

Yes, tickets would be under very great demand during the holiday. You would better purchase it in advance. If you do not stay at any hotel in China, you could let a friend in China to buy it for you or you can contact some agencies in Shanghai who could deliver the issued tickets to you in person.
