About:China Visa Exemption

I am considering back to back cruises from Singapore to Shanghai and continuing for next cruise to Hong Kong. Only PRC port visited is Shanghai for 1 day. Can we do this without visa or just take first cruise and disembark in Shanghai for flight home also without visa.

Our problem is that we live in Phuket, Thailand and highly inconvenient to obtain visas.

Visa is not required if you will transit through Pudong Airport or Hongqiao Airport within 48 hours with final destination ticket. But if you arrive with a cruise, you need to apply for a visa to China in advance.
