About:Chinese Crew, Resident and Journalist Visa

i am applying for a visa for my little boy,just wonder if i can use his old photos, or does it have to be recently taken?becoz he just wouldnt sit still,he is not even 2 years old.

The photo should be taken within half a year with no big difference in appearance.
