5 hours is a long trip. Maybe I should take a bus from Yongkang to Ningbo? Is it faster? are there more buses going directly to Ningbo?

Yes, there are express buses departing from Yongkang to Ningbo, taking about 3 hours.

BY BUS from yongkang to cixi is the best.
UNLESS you hire a car or taxi, it is faster.
