About:Chinese Consulate in Vancouver

Hi,
I am a permanent resident of Canada, and have HK passport and HKID card (3 stars). I would like to know if I need the Home Return Permit by transiting Shanghai without leaving the airport (about 3 hours stopover).Thanks.

You don't need the Home Return Permit for transiting Shanghai without leaving the airport.
