About:Chinese Embassy in France

i will be staying one night in shanghai then i fly back out to the united states the next day. do i need a visa for one day to go into downtown shanghai and get a hotel?

i do have a valid U.S. passport.

You don't need a visa for one day to visit downtown Shanghai and get a hotel, but the connection flight tickets and valid U.S. passport are required to show to immigration officer when you exit Pudong airport or Hongqiao airport
