we have a short visit to China --will arr in 'Shanghai and leave from Beijing --how do we get to Xian and can we do this on a one day (in befor noon and out as late as possible to catch a plane--or any better waythanks

Time is tight. But you could make it if you want. If by air, you could take an early flight to Xian and then leave xian at night. If by train, take a night train and arrive xian in the morning, after still s night train back to Shanghai. The Z-train is preferred.
