About:Chinese Consulate in Toronto

please advise if Chinese visa is required for Canadian to visit Shanghai less than 48 hours.

You need a Chinese visa to visit Shanghai even for less than 48 hours. If you transit Shanghai for less than 48 hours, you don't need a China visa, just show your connecting flight tickets and have booked seats, valid passport
