Hi Ms ana. First, it's quite safe to travel here as long as you don't get involved in those gangs by yourself and respect the local customs^_^. Besides downtown Guilin and Yangshuo, you can also go to Xingan, Longsheng, or Gongcheng, the place I mentioned in the above post(If the flower has not withered yet). For cheap and good hotels, in Guilin I know there is one called Flower Hostel right oppposit the train station; as to Yangshuo, there are hostels everywhere, I can check and give you the links of their websites later if you like. In my opinion, to book in advance will be better.
