About:Ancient Chinese Marriage Custom

Hi, i have this question in mind. Wonder anyone could help me with it. According to the Chinese tradition, 2 person is consider marriage when they went to Registration of Marriage to the government or only when they been through the Chinese custom as you mention above?

At present, people are considered a couple after their registration at government. In anciant China, 2 persons became a match after helding the wedding ceremony.
