About:Chinese Embassy in Japan

Hi-- I am traveling to Beijing in May, and plan to take a train to Shanghai and continue by train to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, flying from Ho Chi Minh to Bangkok, Taiwan, and back to Tokyo (where I am living). Will my plane tickets from those cities be OK for getting a Chinese visa or do I need to show actual exit tickets from China? Can I book my train ticket out of China in advance and use that for the Chinese visa?

Thanks, Jamie

Your plane tickets to those cities are ok for China visa application. And, in China, train tickets can only be booked few days prior to the train's departure date. So, it is ok if you have flight tickets to other places after visiting China.
