About:Chinese Consulates in South Korea

I am planning to go to Korea as a tourist for two weeks and then head to China for another few weeks in the summer. I know I need a visa to get from Korea to China, but do I need to be in Korea to apply for one, or can I apply for one while I'm in the US? If so, how? And what would I need? Will I be able to buy a plane ticket ahead of time from Korea to China before I get my visa?

You can apply in US before departure since China visa is valid for 3 months from issue date in general. Air tickets is not required.
