About:Chinese Embassy in Canada

I am a Canadian passport holder applying for a double entry visa for China. I need 70 days after my second entry but was told that the max I can apply for is 60days. Can I apply for an extension from within China or do I have to leave China and apply for a new visa. Also, if I have to leave, do I have to return to Canada to get it or can I go to Korea or Thailand?
Thanks.

You can apply for an extension from the local Exit & Entry Division of Public Security Bureau within China. If the application is denied, you have to leave China, but you can get it in Hong Kong, Macau or Thailand, please don't go to South Korea, it is very complex to get a China visa there.
