I have got admission in Chinese university for 3 years duration and already received the admission letter and visa form etc. I have applied for x study visa, i also want to bring my wife and son (who is 1.75 years old) along with me. So i have also applied for L visa for my family in the same time because they will depart with me. I have submitted the following documents in Chinese embassy.
1. Admission Letter,
2. Visa forms,
3. Pakistan Foreign office's letter of visa recommendation,
4. Medical examination of myself and my wife
5. Marriage certificate (Notarized copy in English),
6. Birth certificate (Notarized copy in English)of my son
7. 03 Passports with 4 years validity each
8. Photographs

1st query is that how much time usually required for aliens in Beijing to obtain the Chinese Residence Permit.

2nd query is "how much will be the duration of my family's L visa over there in China" and "is it possible that after getting my residence permit in china and invitation letter from university, Can i extend the L visa of my family upto 3 years (my study duration) from Beijing, china".

Or i will have to send back my family to Pakistan to get the new visa again from Chinese embassy with the support / proof of my Chinese residence permit and university invitation letter.
