I would like to know if there is bus transportation from Dali to Guangtongto be able to catch the train that goes to Chengdu (on Kunming-Chengdu line).

Guangtong? Do you mean Guangdong?Anyway, you should take a bus or train from Dali to Kunming and then transfer to Chengdu/Guangdong by train or air.

It is Guangtong where the two rail line meets. Why should I go back as far as Kunming....that's a 3 hours detour in the opposite direction. Can't I just take a bus to Guangtong (from Dali) and catch the train which is already on it's way to Chengdu (from Kunming?

Sorry Jolan, I have made a mistake. Well, at Dali Bus Station, there are buses departing to Guangtong from 07:30 to 17:30 every 30 minutes. It will take you about 3 hours on the way.
