we have heard it is really difficult to guarantee we will be able to purchase soft sleeper ticket to Lhasa in July, is this the case?

Usually, July is among the travel peak period to Lhasa. That is why tickets during that time are always under great demand. However, you can book the tickets online or at train stations around 10 days in advance.
